Tip 4: Connect with your audience

If you fail to take advantage of the time before your presentation, you have lost an opportunity to enhance your credibility with your listeners.

You should always arrive early to try and greet your audience prior to your talk.

When you speak to external groups, make it a point to "work the room" – get to know your audience. Maintain maximum eye contact. Your audience wants to meet you. Give them this opportunity.

This includes not having the barrier of a lectern between you and your audience, ‘looking them in the eye’ and showing courtesy and respect for them by not turning and reading off the screen behind you.
